Though the Memorandum of Understanding for generic drugs has been cancelled, both the companies will explore partnerships in other related areas, said a statement issued by DRL.

DRL and Fujifilm signed an MoU on July 28, 2011 and the duo had conducted detailed studies on the establishment of a joint venture for developing and manufacturing generic drugs in Japan.

However, as Fujifilm realigns its long-term growth strategy for the pharmaceutical business, both companies have come to a mutual agreement to terminate the MoU, the statement added.

GV Prasad, Chairman and CEO, DRL said, “Unfortunately, we will not be able to partner with Fujifilm specifically for generic formulations business in Japan. However, I want to reinforce our commitment towards a planned entry into Japan to bring affordable and innovative drugs to more patients worldwide.”

The two companies will continue to explore partnership/alliance opportunities in other pharmaceutical businesses such as API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) development and manufacturing, contract research and development and marketing of super-generics, the release added.

Takatoshi Ishikawa, Director Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Pharmaceutical Products Division of Fujifilm said, in long-term, the Japanese company will be focusing more on priority fields such as new drugs in cancer field.

He said the company will also focus on more value-added super generic, and bio-related business by using core technologies, analysis technologies, original nanotechnology, and high reliability and high quality manufacturing technologies.

Ishikawa said they shall continue future collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s in other fields.

For the third time in less than a week, the Delhi high court has decried that rape laws are often misused by women.

Flagging the issue in a judgment on Saturday, Justice Kailash Gambhir said rape cases are being used as “a weapon for vengeance and vendetta” to harass and even force a boy to marry.

While granting anticipatory bail to a man facing rape charges from a woman claiming to be his wife, HC added that in many cases woman first has consensual sex but later files rape case against her boyfriend when the relationship breaks up in order to force him to get married, making not only “mockery” of the marriage but also inflating the statistics of rape cases.

“Many of the cases are being reported by those women ,who have consensual physical relationship with a man but when the relationship breaks due to one reason or the other, the women use the law as a weapon for vengeance and personal vendetta to extort money and sometimes even to force the boy to get married to her,” HC said advocating extreme caution to judges who should “cautiously examine the intentions of the girl to find out whether the rape complaint is genuine or has malafide motives”.

This includes an announcement of two major annual international awards for scholars of eminence in classical Indian languages.

A Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Languages would be set up. Also, the University Grants Commission (UGC) would be requested to create, initially in the Central Universities, a certain number of professional chairs for classical languages for scholars of eminence in classical Indian languages.

Request to declare Malayalam as a classical language was recommended by the Kerala government and certain NGOs.

The pleas were referred to the Sahitya Akademi which was discussed by the Committee of Linguistic Experts. A meeting of this committee was held in January, 2011.

The members deliberated on the subject and suggested that the Committee of Linguistic Experts may be reconstituted.

As per the lawyer as he stated in the special court that someone has poisoned his client in Tihar jail, Delhi and he is critically ill.

On the allegation leveled by the lawyer, the court of of Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna has directed the prison authorities to ensure that proper medical care is provided to him as per his condition and urgency.

The lawyer for Vinay Sharma alleged in the court that the accused was vomiting blood as his food was being poisoned over a period of several weeks.

Tihar Jail spokesperson Sunil Kumar Gupta has denied that Vinay has ever been poisoned in the jail.

So far the rumor regarding Vinay Sharma is concerned, an under-trial prisoner, that he has not been “poisoned in jail, is not correct even though he is admitted in hospital.

“The fact remains that Vinay Sharma was admitted in hospital due to high fever and not by poisoning.”

Vinay Sharma has been hospitalized and is in a “critical condition”, A P Singh, his advocate, said, adding that the accused was not getting proper treatment in hospital as the doctors were on strike.

The judge asked the jail authorities to find out whether the doctors were on strike and to inform him if Vinay can be shifted to a private hospital.

“The jail superintendent is directed to look into the matter. If doctors are on strike then make arrangements to shift the accused Vinay to another hospital where better facilities are available.

“See if he can be shifted to any other private hospital. Tell me if as per jail manual, I can send him to another hospital at government expense,” the court said.

Dayan Krishnan, the Special Public Prosecutor, denied the claim of Vinay’s counsel A P Singh, refuting that no doubt doctors were on strike but that was just for a few hours.

The court, however, said, “If doctors were on strike then why have you have sent the accused to this hospital.”

Vinay Sharma has not attended the court proceedings since May 8 as he is not keeping well.

“We should still believe in the judicial system after after the court reopened the investigations against Jagdish Tytler.”

Delhi Court had earlier given a final relief to Jgdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-ikh riots case when the CBI filed their closure in 2007 and gave him a clean chit in 2009.

Though during the arguments on April 4, the CBI prosecutor had sought the dismissal of the plea that Jagdish Tytler was not present on November 1, 1984 at Gurudwara Pulbangash in North Delhi where three people were killed during the riots.

It is the authority of court which can’t be challenged in the initial stages; hence the CBI shall have to re-probe Jagdish Tytler for his alleged involvement.

The Supreme Court has taken a suo motu cognizance of the Bulandshahr minor rape case on Wednesday, and asked the UP Govt. to explain how the rape minor rape victim was locked up in a jail when she approached the police to file a complaint and under what law?

The apex court has asked the state government to submit its reply by Monday.

A ten year old girl and her mother were put behind the bars when they went a police station in Bulandshahr to file an FIR.
The statement of Girl victim:

“They slapped me. They put me in jail.” There she spent more than 15 hours along with her mother.

It was alleged that two women constables, who had locked up the girl and her mother, have now been suspended and the SSP of the town has accepted that it was a blunder.

“The policewomen made a mistake. They should not have put the minor in jail. They were summoned and then suspended. Both were constables in office for less than a year. They must undergo training again,” said SSP Gulab Singh.

As per media, the SSP while defending the police said it was a stray incident and not reflective of the attitude of the entire police force.

The mother of the survivor is reported to have expressed apprehension that she may be killed.

She said: “They told me that once they get out, they will kill me. What can I do now?” The main questions is how law shall protect them?
