The United States has said ‘No’ to hold bilateral talks with North Korea on the nuclear issue and asserted that the six-party conference hosted by China was the only and right way to resolve the matter.
"All parties in the region recognize that they have a stake in North Korea ending its nuclear weapon program. This is of course a regional matter that affects the countries in the region, and the US has made their views very clear about their role that it is a matter to be decided by the all concerned parties in the talks", White House Press Secretary Scott McLellan said.
"The six-party meeting (US, the two Koreas, China, Japan and Russia) is the only way to resolve this matter in a peaceful and diplomatic way", he said.
Asked whether under no circumstances would the US agree to bilateral talks with North Korea, McClellan said "the problem is that we have been let down. The 1994 Agreed Framework was the road that we went down before.
It was a bilateral approach between the United States and North Korea". "North Korea violated that agreement and continued to pursue nuclear weapons. All parties in the region believe they have a stake in making sure that there is a de-nuclearized Korean Peninsula", he said.
US has made the point clear that they are not ready for the bilateral talks with North Korea on the issue of Nuclear Weapons.
