May 3, 2008 - Controversy over Priyanka's meeting with Nalini just refuses to die down. A day after the jail superintendent of Vellore Jail where Priyanka Gandhi met Rajiv Gandhi's assassin Nalini Sriharan, denied the meeting ever took place, Nalini's lawyer E Doraiswami has accussed him of lying under the Right to Information Act.

Doraiswami claims that since even Priyanka has not denied the meeting the superintendent is lying.

In a written reply to an RTI petition on the subject, of which a copy is available with TIMES NOW, the jail superintendent Raja Saoundari denies the meeting took place on the 19th of March, the exact date on which Priyanka told TIMES NOW the meeting took place.

In fact she says the meeting did not happen on either the 14th or the 19th of March 2008. This reply was filed before the story broke nationally in the Times of India, after which Priyanka herself admitted she did meet Nalini.

So why then did the Jail Superindent try to conceal the truth? Nalini's lawyer says it is because there was no written record in the jail record to show the meeting took place.

"The reply is an online reply that nobody met Nalini either on 14th or 19th of March. I have filed a petition against the superintendent for giving a false information - Priyanka has acknowledged and nobody else has denied it. There is nothing in the jail records to show the meeting of Nalini with Priyanka, only for that purpose they have denied any meeting," said Doraiswami.
