Frigid Zone beyond Neptune; New discovery
MIL, Dec 11, 2004. Author: Science Correspondence

It has been discovered that hundreds of tiny worlds circling beyond Neptune were frozen in time and are almost unchanged since their formation five billion years ago. Astronomers are now even entertaining visions of icy volcanoes on this far away planet. (report 10 December, Times of India).

In an article in 'Nature', David Jewitt (University of Hawaii) and Jane Luu(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) report the presence of crystalline water ice on the known Kuiper Belt objects, Quaoar.  They also report signs of ammonia hydrate. Incidently, this finding supports a similar report/theory given by Indian Scientist.

Apparently, Ice cubes and snow on Earth all develop in crystalline form, with the water molecules stacking in a hexagonal pattern.  (The hexagonal structure produces the symmetric shapes of snowflakes). According to Nature "What is common on Earth was a surprise for Quaoar, located about four billion miles from the Earth.  In ultra frigid conditions like those found on Quaoar - the surface temperature dips below minimum 300 degrees Fahrenheit - ice generally takes an amorphous form more like glass."

Dr. Raj Baldev, the Indian Scientist in his theory (Two Big Bangs Created the Universe) explained in his chapter of 'Justification of Ice in Parent Universe that the space contains ice crystal, water ice, permanent layer of water ice, carbon dioxide ice, icy slush, nitrogen ice with some frozen carbon monoxide and water, or ice mixed within the dirt, dust and rock (in case of Mars. So much so, Neptune and Uranus are mainly made up of ice).

According to the book - In Space, the temperature could be absolute minus 273.15 degree Centigrade.  An example of the Boomerang Nebula,  5,000 light years from the Earth, is given which has a temperature of  minus 272.15 degrees, which is supported by the findings of both ESA and NASA.
