Minimum temperature dropping to 2.3 C in Delhi

New Delhi: January 28, 2008 - Delhiites continued to shiver for another day on Monday with the minimum temperature dipping to 2.3 degree celsius, the second lowest recorded this season.

According to Bureau report, today`s minimum plummeted from yesterday`s 5.9 degree celsius to settle at 2.3 degrees, which is six notches below normal temperature this time of the year, prompting the weatherman to declare a cold wave in the capital.

The capital is likely to be under the cold spell for a couple of days with the meteorological department predicting the minimum to hover around two degrees tomorrow.

The National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting said that a Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India, including Delhi, by February, which is expected to cause a rise in temperature.

The capital has been experiencing intense cold for the past few days with the minimum and maximum temperatures plummeting many notches below normal. The maximum was recorded at 18.1 degrees celsius yesterday.

The season`s lowest was recorded at 1.9 degree celsius on January two, marking a chilly beginning to the new year.
