December 18, 2007 - Earlier, lots of studies were conducted in regards to mobile phone usage and its hazardous effects. TechGadgets.in has reported that ten minutes of talking on the phone increases the risk of brain cancer. Later, there was news that warned to keep children away from phones that led to brain tumor. Recently, a researcher from Israel has carried out a study, which concluded that mobile phones also cause mouth cancer.
A team of international researchers, led by Dr. Siegal Sadetzki from the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre in Tel Hashomer in Israel, found out that frequent use of mobile phones raise the chance of people being affected by malignant mouth tumors. Before revealing this, they analyzed the effects of mobile phones on users in Israel. However Sadetzki was skeptical about drawing any conclusion.
He commented, “Until more evidence becomes available we believe that the precautionary approach currently adopted by most scientific committees and applied by many governments should continue.”
With a control group of 1,266 people, researches judged against the lifestyle of 402 people with benign mouth tumors and 56 having malignant ones. As per the study, those who are in constant mobile phone habit are more likely to develop parotid gland tumor, as compared to the normal people.
It is said that people who have used phones for around five years have greater chances of facing a tumor. Numerically explaining, approx. 50 percent of frequent users of mobiles can suffer with the disease, compared to the people who had never used one.
According to the report, parotid is the largest of the salivary glands located in front of the ear. Long-term mobile phone users tend to develop tumors on the same side of the head as the phone was normally held.
The research also mentioned that rural area people have to work harder to make contact with the nearest base station, while using mobile phones. Thus, they are at greater risk. However, the extent of the risk was not revealed.
