Sonia’s first election tour in Gujarat: Highlights women’s upliftment

Vadodara, November 03, 2007 –In the wake of forthcoming Assembly Polls in the State, UPA chairperson and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who is on a visit to Gujarat, addressed an all-woman rally in Anand district here on today and highlighted the commendable work done by the Congress party for the upliftment of women in the country.
In fact, it was an election tour of the state and in her speech and virtually she initiated the election campaign of the Congress in Gujarat that is going to polls in December.
Sonia said that India is promoting the status of women all areas, even India has the woman President and all these achievements have come under the Congress rule led by UPA regime.
While attacking Gujarat politics, Sonia Gandhi said: “We hang our heads in shame…” Commenting on the allegedly sorry state of affairs in Gujarat, Sonia told people to judge for themselves about the conditions prevalent in Gujarat and said that the people knew better about the state’s plight.
Sonia Gandhi commended the Gujarat state, and said her party has enrolled more than five and a half lakh women to work for the country. (IR Summary).
