Hyderabad, August 9, 2007 – A political outfit namely Majlis Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) attacked famous Bangladesh Author Taslima Nasreen in the area of Hyderabad Press Club while she was releasing a Telegu version of her book. She was jeered and gheraod by the MIM activists and threw chairs at the author and the audience.
As per the report of the TIMES NOW, who spoke to Akhtar Khan, one of the MLAs of MIM who fiercely protected their move of attacking the author. "She is enemy of Islam, she is a black spot on Muslims," lashed out a defiant Khan. "We cannot bear anyone talking against Islam. She has written books against our government, Islam. We will not tolerate her in Hyderabad."
Threatening to continue his tirade against Nasreen, Khan said they will continue doing so till she is in Hyderabad. When asked about his party's stand on the attack, Khan proudly said, "I am a Muslim first and then an MLA. My party is with me in this mission."
However, the police rescued Taslima and other journalists present at the press club by escorting them to a safer place and took the doubtful people for questioning.
Taslima, who has been living in exile for the last five years has always been in the centre of controversy for speaking in favour of equal rights for women and expressing opposition to the oppression of non-Islamic minorities in Islamic societies, such as in her home country Bangladesh as per TIMESNOW.
