New Delhi, July 18, 2007 ( Wednesday) - Fourteen Indian entrepreneurs were today awarded   for innovation in science and technology under the Lokheed Martin India innovation Growth Programme.

Giving away the awards in New Delhi, Dr. T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said that there is enough scope for innovation in the country and the challenge is to turn these ideas into profit making ideas.

Seven awards each were given in gold and silver categories.

The innovations included waste plastic conversion to petroleum fuels, smart card operated prepaid energy meter with automatic load controller, apoptopic proteins that can be used for the treatment of diseases like allergy and asthma by fusing them with human proteins, formulation of herbal essential oils extracts and isolates that repels mosquitoes etc.

FICCI jointly with the Lockheed Martin Corporation and IC2 Institute, University of Texas at Austin implemented the Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program in India in March 2007.

It is a two-year, nation-wide project, created to enhance the growth and development of India's entrepreneurial economy. (ANI)
