Mahbubnagar, (Andhra Pradesh): July 06, 2007 (Friday) – A great tragedy, inhuman and barbarous, occurred here in this district, about 180 km from Hyderabad. The maternal grandparents of a family buried alive a two-day-old baby girl simply on the plea they had many others to bring up. It is the luck of the little baby, who survived despite ill intentions of her grandparents and the police had no hesitation in registering a case of attempt to murder against her grandparents and uncle. There are multiple abrasions on her body due to injury from sand and stones, where she was thrown. Venkatachary, Paediatrician, Mahbubnagar district hospital said,” her condition is better now.”
The baby girl was buried alive early on Thursday allegedly by her maternal grandparents in Mahbubnagar district, some 180 km from Hyderabad. The newborn baby's grandfather reportedly told the police that he is already father to seven girls, five of who are still to be married off. So it was difficult for him to take care of another baby girl.
The baby's father has reportedly gone away to Maharashtra. The baby is now stable at Mahbubnagar's district hospital. A case of attempt to murder has been filed against the grandparents and the uncle of the child as per report by Uma Sudhir.
