President sends Petition seeking disqualification of Sonia to EC

It is reported that President A P J Abdul Kalam has forwarded the petition to the Election Commission against Congress President Sonia Gandhi seeking her disqualification as Lok Sabha member and also some other MPs on the ground of their holding respective offices of profit.

The petitions were forwarded by to the EC as "a matter of routine" and it was up to the Commission to take their view and submit its report back to the President.

According to a press report, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said "the President had received over 40 letters and he sent all of them to the EC for necessary information and action.

"I have sent all and nothing is pending," Singh quoted Kalam as saying.

TDP Parliamentary leader K Yerrannaidu, who also accompanied Singh, said he had sent a letter to Kalam on March 14 seeking disqualification of Gandhi, ICCR Chairman Karan Singh and Union Minister T Subba Rami Reddy as MPs on the ground that they are holding offices of profit. Reddy is chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Board.
