Washington - The Army said on Saturday that it would launch a criminal investigation into the April 2004 death of Pat Tillman, the former professional football player.
Pat Tillman was shot dead by the fellow soldiers. The new inquiry has become necessary since the review given by the previous Army sources is considered doubtful. A new investigation shall be thorough and it would try to bring truth on the fore. The authorities now believe that the incident might not be accidental.
According to Guardian Unlimited, Col. Joseph Curtin, an Army spokesman, said the Defense Department office of inspector general had reviewed the matter at the Army's request and concluded that a criminal probe was warranted.
Members of the Tillman family were notified on Friday, Curtin said.
Curtin said the scope of the new investigation by the Army Criminal Investigation Command, had not yet been determined in detail.
According to Bob Burns, AP Military, since the new investigation has not been formally begun, it might focus on possible charges of negligent homicide.
Anyhow, it is a good move from investigation point of view, it shall wash off many doubts and shall get justice to a great sportsman.
