Hyderabad - Proteas won the toss and elected in the first one day international in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Both teams are in high morale, they have just come off series victories and are riding high on confidence. However, South Africa won by five wickets.
Virender Sehwag was the first to go when Prince caught him at point off Makhaya Ntini's bowling for just one in the second over.
The Indian batting was left in tatters and was gasping at 35 for five before Yuvraj along with Irfan Pathan steadied the innings.
India lost its second wicket when Mohammad Kaif was trapped leg before wicket by Shaun Pollock.
Sachin Tendulkar couldn't stay at the crease for long and was caught by wicketkeeper Mark Boucher off a Pollock delivery for two runs.
Dravid (8) tried to stem the rot but in vain as he was clean bowled by Andre Nel, who also picked two wickets, to leave India in shambles at 34 for four.
Ntini picked up his second wicket when Gautam Gambhir, brought on as a supersubstitute, in place of Murali Kartik was caught by Boucher for one. Yuvraj along with Pathan put on 75 runs for the sixth wicket before Pathan was bowled by Johan Botha for 46.
Dhoni was run out by Nel for 17 runs. Ajit Agarkar played a cameo knock with a quickfire 21 off 27 balls before he was caught by Kemp off Nel's bowling.
Yuvraj then propelled India to a competitive score, scoring 103 off 121 balls. His knock consisted of 10 fours and three sixes. Harbhajan Singh struck a cameo 37 off 17 balls with four fours and two sixes.
South Africa will be looking to close in on the world record of the longest winning streak.The Proteas are just three matches away from the record and unbeaten in their last 19 matches, just two short of Australia's record of 21.
India made 249, chasing 250 to win, the Proteas reached the target easily with more than an over to spare and five wickets in hand.
The South African innings was built around a solid sixth-wicket partnership between Jacques Kallis (68 not out) and JM Kemp (46 not out).
Ajit Agarkar gave India the first breakthrough when he trapped A B de Villiers for seven runs. Justin Ontong was the next to go, caught by Rahul Dravid off an Agarkar delivery.
South African captain Graeme Smith was unlucky to miss out on his half-century after R P Singh dismissed him for 48.
After Smith departed, Kallis and AG Prince added 89 runs for the fourth wicket before Virender Sehwag off Harbhajan Singh caught the latter's bowling in the 34th over.
Mark Boucher also did not stay for a long, he was dismissed in the next over off Sachin Tendulkar.
Earlier, India made 249 for nine in their allotted 50 overs on the back of a brilliant hundred from Yuvraj Singh and cameo knocks by Harbahajan Singh and Ajit Agarkar.
South African fast bowlers Makhaya Ntini and Shaun Pollock ripped through the Indian top order.
Yuvaraj was honored as Man of the Match.
