World pays Tributes to former President K.R Narayanan

New Delhi -The world paid rich tributes to former Indian President K.R. Narayanan who was cremated at a state funeral in New Delhi on 10th November 2005.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leading dignitaries attended the last ceremony. National Integration Assembly and its members also paid heart piercing tributes to Late Narayanan. He was the first person from the Dalit, or untouchable, caste to serve as president, died on Wednesday at the age of 85. He was suffering from pneumonia.
His remains, wrapped in the Indian flag, were cremated Thursday on the banks of the Yamuna River amid chanting of prayers, the BBC reported. Government officials and political leaders had placed floral wreaths on the funeral pyre.
As per UPI, his body had earlier been lain in state at a government guesthouse, where dignitaries paid their respects.
Ten days of mourning have been announced throughout India. Flags are flying at half-mast across the nation, and no official engagements will take place during the mourning period.
Before serving as president from 1997 to 2002, Narayanan was India's ambassador to Beijing and Washington.
