Iran agrees conditionally to halt its Nuclear Program
MIL/NYT, Aug 4, 2005. Special Correspondent

Tehran - Iran showed its irritation on its waiting indefinitely for a  proposal of concessions which it expected from the European nations about their possible economic, security, political and technological incentives in return to stop its nuclear activities.

On Sunday Iran said that it would be resuming work at a uranium conversion facility in Isfahan since its patience was exhausted and would not like to afford any delay in the matter.

In response to the above statement by the Iranian authorities, a call was sent to them by Britain, France and Germany that they would take a serious view and halt the talks in future if it may decide to resume its nuclear program.

While reacting the leaders of Iran said that they were serious in negotiating with Europe over its nuclear program.  They sent a reply to the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Germany stating that Iran was ready to resume talk on its nuclear activities, but at the same time it is interested to negotiate the matter.

The letter, in fact was sent by Iran in response to the three foreign ministers who had warned that talks would end if Iran resumed its nuclear activities.

According to Nazila Fathi, New York Times, the European diplomats said this week that they were waiting to present their proposal until the new President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 48, took office.

At a ceremony on Wednesday, he received the approval of Iran's supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other nonelected senior religious leaders. His inauguration is set for Saturday.

Senior officials have said Iran's nuclear policy will not change after Mr. Ahmadinejad takes office because it is determined at senior levels and by the supreme leader. The United States contends that Iran intends to produce nuclear weapons. Iran says that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
