NIA President advises AIDS patients to stop taking dangerous ARV drugs
MIL, May 13, 2005. Special Correspondent
Hyderabad (AP)- While speaking to social groups working for AIDS in Andhra Pradesh, NIA President, Dr. Raj Baldev, advised them to educate the people within their state and elsewhere where possible that they should keep away from the ARV drugs, which are on fast sale in the world.
NIA President explained that these ARV drugs severely damage most of the cells in the body. The damage is caused even to white blood cells and as a result the ARV drugs deteriorate the conditions of the patients rather than improving them. Doctors feel that the ARV drugs may worsen the immune deficiencies and expand the AIDS epidemic rather than helping the affected people.
NIA President also sent a similar message to the African continent which is the hardest hit area. According to the United Nations, over 22 million Africans have already died from AIDS and it is estimated that about 6000 people die everyday in those areas.
Dr. Raj Baldev said, "In my opinion, this figure is under estimated, since there is no proper survey anywhere, most of the people hide this disease in all parts of the world, hence it can be estimated that the people who suffer from this fell disease are at least double of the figure published by UN and other bodies."
"NIA survey team faces this problem and is sure that much more people are affected by HIV/AIDS than recorded. This is a very dangerous epidemic and the world should not a serious note of it. It is not a matter to be take lightly."
"Dr. Raj Baldev also pointed out that this disease is not only restricted to African continent but to all other regions, which are considered healthy and superior. So the European countries and the American States should not take them as exceptions."
NIA President said that NIA's Website shall be ready soon within a month and it shall serve you with all the relevant information.
NIA Vice President Mrs. Tripta Bhatia sent a message from New Delhi which was read out to the NGOs workers to take special precautions that the AIDS patients do not consume ARV drugs. Mr. Dev Prakash, another Vice President from New Delhi and Mr. P. Pagella, NIA Executive Member from Rome also sent similar messages, which were read out to the audience.
