Dambulla, Sri Lanka, Aug. 01, 2009 - Seamer Thilan Thushara grabbed three wickets as Pakistan suffered another batting collapse on Saturday, being bowled out for 168 in the second limited-over international against Sri Lanka.
Asked to bat first, Pakistan's poor form with the bat in their winless tour continued as the hosts came up with a disciplined effort on the field.
Seam bowler Nuwan Kulasekera struck first ball of the match when he had opener Nasir Jamshed caught at slip by Mahela Jayawardene.
Thushara came in as first change in the sixth over and dismissed Kamran Akmal (13) when Thilan Samaraweera took a good low catch at first slip.
The left-arm seamer in his next over claimed the wicket of Shoaib Malik for a duck when the batsman was ruled leg before wicket with the total on 21.
Captain Younis Khan and debutant Umar Akmal tried to rescue their side taking the total beyond 50, but seam bowler Anjelo Mathews accounted for Akmal when he edged a ball to wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara.
After the seamers had done the early damage, the off-spin of Muttiah Muralitharan was introduced in the 24th over and he further tightened the grip on the tourists, accounting for Khan (23) and Shahid Afridi (7).
The tourists were spared a more embarrassing total by an impressive 40-run final-wicket partnership between Mohammad Aamer and Saeed Ajmal. It was the best stand for the last wicket in ODIs between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, erasing the previous best of 27 by Moin Khan and Waqar Younis in Sharjah in 1997.
Aamer top scored for the tourists with an unbeaten 24 in 32 balls with three boundaries.
Sri Lanka retained the same side that beat the tourists by 36 runs in the series opener on Thursday.
Pakistan dropped vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf for the game bringing in Jamshed and Akmal.
