No Nuclear threat to North Korea, No reason to withdraw from talks -Rice
MIL/Agencies, Feb 11, 2005. Special Correspondent

Washington - Claiming that the US and its allies could deal with any nuclear threat from North Korea, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today suggested Pyongyang to return to the disarmament talks to avoid their isolation in the international community.

"I've only recently seen the North Korean statement. The North Koreans are only deepening their isolation because everyone in the international community, and most especially North Korea's neighbors, have been very clear that there needs to be no nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula in order to maintain stability in that region," she said while appearing on the Dutch television.

The reaction of the US on the claim of the North Korea was diplomatic. North Korea said that it is practically a nuclear weapon power state and their aim is just to defend their interests and so they have decided to pull out of the six nations talks.  Rice just clarified her stand that Korea has no danger of attack from any other country.

She said: "We will consult with the other members of the six party talks - the Russians, the Chinese, the Japanese, the South Koreans - and think about what should be their next step. But clearly, if this is the case, it's just another indication that the North Koreans are isolated".

"I think we just have to first look at the statement, and then to talk with our allies. She emphasized again." There is no reason for North Koreans to fear, since there is no apparent reason to believe that some country could to attack them.

"They've been told they can have multilateral security assurances for them if they so desire. To make such an important decision to give up their nuclear weapons program without any proper reason is not at all advisable. However, we'll examine what should we do next."

According to PTI, Rice urged North Korea to "avail of this take the opportunity before they get on a different path."
