London - Prince Charles, 56, the heir to the British throne, and Camilla Parker-Bowles, 57,are to marry April 8. This marriage shall be one of the most controversial weddings.
They are scheduled to marry at Windsor Castle in southeast England, which will be followed by a religious blessing, announced by the Clarence House of Prince Charles' office on Thursday. The marriage shall practically be a civil ceremony and not royal.
However, this marriage cannot be compared with the wedding of Charles-Diana which was solemnized in 1981 with standing ovations of over half a million people lining up in streets in London to felicitate the royal couple.
The people are holding different sentiments about this marriage; some in favor and some against, polling is going on to get the public opinion. But the marriage has to take place and the polling shall have no effect. There are different ramous going on about Diana's death. Within hours of the announcement, hundreds of people phoned into radio stations to express their displeasure. In a quick Sky News poll Thursday afternoon, 62 percent said they were opposed to the marriage.
However, many others are in favor of the marriage. The poll shall give us the right picture.
The marriage has been cleared. The Clarence House announced that Camilla would not be known as princess after their marriage. She shall be known as the duchess of Cornwall as Charles is the Duke of Cornwall.
If Charles becomes the King of England, Camilla will be called princess consort, and not queen. This status looks odd to most of the royal family and politicians, but Prince Charles is adamant to marry and it is final.
