What India should do after Serial Terrorist Attacks on Mumbai?

MIL, Nov 27, 2008

Mumbai, India: November 27, 2008- Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist, Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA) – Terrorist attacks on India have become a pride operation by different terrorist groups, each of them wants to compete the other and not only the Indian people are suffering from being killed and wounded  indiscriminately but also the prestige and stability of the country is at stake with big question marks on weak Indian democratic system which is being targeted to fail the nation by destroying the tourism and making the global impact on India to be declared “UNSAFE TO LAND”.

The coordinated terrorist attacks, which has struck the heart of Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, on Wednesday night, killing 126 and wounding around 350 people as per unofficial figure, has not only shaken the Mumabi Metro but also the entire world, since it is a clear attempt to challenge the stability of the country’s democratic set up of which India feels proud.

It is an act of  war against the nation by terrorists, who used dozens of machine guns and heavy powered grenades at different points and easily succeeded entering the two five-star hotels, the city’s largest train station, a Jewish center, a movie theater and a hospital.

This is established beyond doubt that the acts of terrorism have created a hub in India and the competition of terrorist groups functioning in India with link with aborad should be decimated, irrespective of any religion.

The terrorists are using new methods every time, this time, they used boats to reach the urban peninsula where they struck, and succeeded in exhibiting their superiority in targeting the most popular tourist spots to force the world to discourage tourism in India, being unsafe country.

The data of victims in Mumbai as per people or local figure, the people killed are around 126 and wounded around 350, even though the police figure is a bit low.   The guests who had escaped the hotels told different television stations that the terrorists were taking foreigners as hostages, particularly singling out Americans and Britons. They were soft to other foreigners belonging to other countries other than American and United Kingdom.

The terrorists, who has definitely link with the terrorist groups outside India, also claimed some ransom. The one who spoke from Oberoi Hotel, said, “We want all mujahedeen held in India released, and only after that we will release the people,” he also said   “Atrocities are being committed on their community, particularly ladies and children and also showed his anger about Babri Masjid”.

Hours after the assaults began, the landmark Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Hotel, next to the famed waterfront monument the Gateway of India, was seen in flames.
Guests banged on the windows of the upper floors as firefighters worked to rescue them. Fire also raged inside the luxurious Oberoi Hotel. Hours after the assaults began, the landmark Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Hotel, next to the famed waterfront monument the Gateway of India, was in flames.

Fire also raged inside the luxurious Oberoi Hotel, a militant hidden in the Oberoi told India TV on Thursday morning that seven attackers were holding hostages there.

The terrorists are young and what they were talking about or demanding, was haphazard and unclear, simply they completed their mission and created panic and damaged India, and its system.

Around 24 terrorists came at about 9 PM on Wednesday in Mumbai, scattered into groups to operate at different points of the city and the encounter is still continuing.
One group first of all captured a police van and started firing indiscriminately on the people standing in the street nearby and entered the Taj by firing on every person that confronted them and also killed the hotel staff and went in along with their arms and ammunition and occupied their positions.

All terrorists were carrying ultra modern guns, a sizeable ammunition and powerful grenades and sharp trained mind to fulfill their mission and they started their operation more or less at the same time.

Three taxies were seen being exploded by powerful hand grenades or some sort of bomb, and many people were seen bleeding, around 126 people are assumed to be dead and about 350 injured, as per unofficial figures, most of them were shifted to nearest hospitals, who are already short of space, beds and no blood available to save the victims.

There were 5 blasts at different places, India's financial capital was hit by multiple terrorist attacks. There was a hint that the Taj hotel could be the target of terrorists and the security was increased but last week, the security was relaxed a bit, the terrorists might have taken the undue advantage of the poor security and attacked.
Even otherwise the strategy of terrorists was new, no one expected that they would first start firing, kill everybody on their way and capture the hotel. In short, Taj Mahal hotel on the Gateway of India and Oberoi Hotel became their targets. They also attacked Oberoi more or less with the same force and strategy.

Among the killed, there are more than 12 foreigners, 5 terrorists, 9 terrorists were arrested.    Army has been called, commandoes are working on the operation, there are about 800 armymen involved in the operation, the help of special dogs has also been taken. The commandoes  have the most sophisticated guns with telescope which can see beyond the wall. The authorities deployed 12 ambulances to carry the wounded and the dead.

The final report is awaited. It is the worst type of attack launched by the terrorists on Mumbai with a new strategy.

The big question mark is: what India should do in these circumstances? Is its democratic set up is faulty? Are the political parties encouraging the terrorist acts for the sake of votes, particularly now when the election is approaching fast?
Should elections be postponed for a year and some strict rules be imposed just a less degree than emergency? There are many such questions which need attention, since none cares for national integration, I can feel its pinch or those like minded people may also feel, what Indian politicians are propagating to woo voters at the cost of country’s unity is absolutely wrong and anti national, and should be thought over, lest it may be too late.
