MIL/Agencies, Oct 4, 2008. IR Summary
New Delhi, India: October 4, 2008 – IR Summary/Agencies - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Saturday that the landmark deal lifting a ban on civilian nuclear trade with India would soon be finally accomplished immediately after signing the same in India, the signing ceremony is a bit delayed.
As regards delay, Rice said the it was simply the result of procedural issues, rather than any substantive problem. The agreement has already been approved by both houses of the US Congress, but has yet to be formally delivered to the White House for President George W. Bush to sign into law.
"The president will sign the agreement very soon," said Rice, adding that both countries would then put their signatures to the deal.
"The agreement is done," she insisted during a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
"I don't want anyone to think that we have open issues. These are administrative matters."
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in Washington that India got its civil nuclear deal with the US despite its strategic nuclear programmes because it is "sui generis" - Latin for "of its own kind" - so suggests US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
India has been given a special status in Indo-US Nuclear Deal and this shall most certainly strength relations between both the countries.
