New Delhi, India: June 18, 2008 - The Left parties has scheduled to meet here today where CPM leader Prakash Karat shall brief his colleagues about his talks with Pranab Mukherjee and then they shall decide whether they can make any change in their previous stand.
The UPA-Left meeting on the Indo-US nuke deal has been postponed to be held on June 25
to discuss the Indo-US nuclear deal.
The new discussion shall be based on the Monday request made by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat to review their tough stand against the deal.
The government has stepped up its efforts to enlist the support of the Left parties for the agreement but the Left parties stuck to their stated position.
The Left-UPA panel on the Indo-US nuclear will meet for the 10th time on June 25.
The panel will discuss the text of a draft India-specific safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency or the IAEA.
The government wants to go ahead and complete the safeguards agreement soon. Time is running out for the government, as any more delay will make it difficult to get it passed in the present US Congress that goes for elections later this year.
