Raj. Govt. only in mood to talk on main demand of Gujjars

MIL/Agencies/HT, Jun 12, 2008

Jaipur, Rajasthan, India: June 12, 2008 – International Reporter (IRS)/ Agencies – Various demands put forward by Gujjar leader KS Bainsala have been held in abeyance, the Vasundhara Raje Govt. just want to take up the main issue of the community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

The Rajasthan government on the other hand registered some cases of sedition and damage to railway tracks against Bainsala and his associates at a Bayana police station in Bharatpur district.

Since it is a serious and judicial matter, the Rajasthan Govt. may not be able to do much even if it is willing to do so.

In view of strict stand by the govt., Gujjar leader Bainsala seems to have softened down and agreed to talk to the govt. in Jaipur despite clear understanding that they would consider only the main demand and not others. The govt. has turned down his request of considering any pre-condition(s) advanced by him.

As regards other demands, some demands cannot be met since the matter is pending in the court, who is to decide the issues as per law of the land.

The fresh demands included release of Gujjar men and women protestors lodged in jails and withdrawal of charges of sedition and damage to railway tracks against 10 senior community leaders, including Bainsala.

The government should also release those 15 Gujjar agitators who were arrested from the SMS hospital on Sunday."

However, the Rajasthan government wants congenial atmosphere to conclude the chapter of preliminary talks at Jaipur as regards their main demand and not other demands for the time being.

The matter is not so easy between Gujjars and Rajasthan Govt. now.  The govt. wants that they would consider only the main demand of the Gujjars plus some reasonable demands and not all demands, particularly those which are not within their purview. They may not touch any demand of Gujjars where judiciary is  involved.
