Jaipur, Rajasthan:June 8, 2008 – International Reporter Summary (IRS) - The Vasundhara Raje government has apprehension of the venue suggested by Gujjars leader in Bayana, since it is the hub of the agitation for ST Status and might flare up the situation during the talks if allowed to take place there. So the Govt. has refused to hold talks with Gujjars in Bayana.
It is in response to a dialogue offer from the government on Thursday, Bainsla had sent a three-line letter the following day saying they could meet in Bayana, but with some conditions, given as under:
Only the single-point agenda of ST status for Gujjars and a recommendation for it thereof and that a delegation of 60-members would meet the government representative.
At hearing the figure of the community members they would have to deal with, the government seems to have had second thoughts and tried.
The group was reduced from 60 to 51, still it is too big for the govt. received and talk, the govt. wants a very small delegation of members. Govt. does not feel comfortable to deal with a big delegation, hence hesitant.
However, the govt. wants the talk to be conducted in Jaipur that too with a very small delegation, a reasonable number of people and not the mob. However,Rajasthan Govt fears agitation by Gujjars in Bayana and wants to avoid talks over there and instead want to talk in Jaipur, which is safe in all respects.
There is also reported to be some differences among different groups of Gujjars and that has given some apprehensions. Rajasthan Govt, therefore, fears an ugly agitation by Gujjars in Bayana and so wants to avoid talks over there and instead wants to talk in Jaipur, which is safe in all respects
