Relaying Problem in activities of Mars Lander, now resumed

MIL/AP/IR Summary, May 28, 2008

New Delhi, India: May 28, 2008 – IR Summary – As reported from Tucson, Ariz (AP), the NASA officials became worried about the delay occurred in relaying lander’s images but now they have confirmed that they they've fixed a radio glitch that had cut off commands to the Phoenix Mars lander.

Tuesday's minor problem delayed a second day of activities for the spacecraft on Mars.

Phoenix communicates with scientists through two NASA orbiters circling the planet. NASA says the Mars Reconnaissance orbiter has resumed relaying the lander's images of the Martian landscape back to Earth.

Officials say the Reconnaissance orbiter may have turned its radio off because of a cosmic ray.

Phoenix has delighted scientists with the first-ever peek of the planet's northern arctic region since landing on Sunday.
