How God responds to His devotees? My father took me inside the house; ours was a big one not that big as we had in our village, having 100 times more area. After entering the house, my father went to my mother’s room to ensure that she was comfortably placed.
He asked my sister Maina Wanti, standing by the side of my mother, to go and open the Pooja Room and directed my elder brother to stay with my mother..
The Pooja Room had the size of about 18x15 square feet, quite spacious and had cross ventilation and one big glass window was erected on the left wall.
The room was decorated with Lord Krishna’s photographs bejeweled on the three walls, front, left and right. Two cupboards were properly kept there on either side of the wall, left and right wherein several holy and religious books were kept. One cupboard was placed a bit close to the window. My father used to sit in the Pooja Room and study the holy and religious books and scripts, whenever he found extra time and in mood.
On the front facing wall of the Pooja Room, a small beautiful box was kept on a fancy table containing the Holy Gita, which my father regularly read before going to court. I don’t think he ever missed to read a chapter of the Gita, as I remember. As directed by our father, I along with my sister went to the Pooja Room. The door was just bolted from outside otherwise the light was already put on there being the occasion of Janam Ashtami. When my sister opened the door of the Pooja Room , I just shouted ‘Lala Ji,’ ‘Lala Ji’ followed by my sister calling ‘Lala Ji, hurry up’, she shouted more loudly.
My brother, sister and I used to call our father as ‘Lala Ji’. On hearing our shout, my father rushed to the Pooja Room and my brother also came running over there leaving mother behind unattended. To an utter surprise for everyone, my father fell on the knees abruptly and bowed on the ground in the middle of the room.
On the other side, my mother became worried, “What happened, somebody should tell me.” She shouted for my sister to come and tell her what happened?
It is a matter of two opinions, one may believe and the other may not, but it was what actually happened, the idol of Baby Lord Krishna and His small cot, which were exhibited in the temple, was stalled in our Pooja Room with all lights around, shedding reflected street light on the Cradle through the glass window of our Pooja Room. The cradle which was supposed to be in the temple was stalled there at home by whom, none knew.
My father along with my brother rushed to my mother’s room, and brought her on the chair to have the darshan of Lord Kirshna. My mother was extremely anxious to know what happened, but my father told her to keep quiet and hurriedly made her to move on the chair, lifted and carried her to the Pooja Room.
On reaching the Pooja Room, my mother was exclaimed and cried out. While addressing to Lord Krishna, she screamed and said in choking voice: “Krishna, do you think we are so worthy of this great blessing?” She cried and hit her head on the right side of the chair.
My father consoled her and after a continuous struggle of a few minutes, he was able to make her mind balanced. My father directed every body to bow before the Baby Lord Krishna and stretch the cradle to and fro and pay reverence to the Lord. My father started a brief kirtan of Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, which was as famous as today. (The kirtan of Hare Krishna, Hare Rama was first chanted by Chataniya Maha Prabhu in Bengal).
After about 10-15 minutes, my father blew the shankh, performed Aarti of the Lord and then distributed the Prasadam of patasa made of sugar to every one of us. After the kirtan was over and Prasadam distributed, we heard a great noise outside the street. We all members of the family came outside to see the chaos on the street, only my mother was left there inside the Pooja Room, which was adjacent to the outer street.
We heard the people telling one another that the idol of Baby Lord Krishna along with the cradle had suddenly disappeared from the main temple.
I hurried back to the Pooja Room and told my mother why the people were shouting shockingly? My mother cried out, yelled and said, “ Krishna, don’t deprive other devotees of Your Darshana.” I was traumatized to see that the baby Krishna along with His cradle disappeared all of a sudden from our room.” I rushed back to the street and whispered to my father in a low tone that the idol of the Lord had disappeared on mother’s prayer. My father, sister and brother and of course I, all rushed back to the Pooja Room, where my mother was left alone. All were taken aback, no body spoke, as if the wind had stopped.
All felt that some supreme force, which had entered the Pooja Room, had departed. The room became normal, as if nothing had happened, everything which was kept there including the table whereon the Holy Gita was kept, was found on its original place, who did was a mystery. In fact, the entire episode was a matter of amazingly surpise.
My father was bewildered and terribly upset; he kept mum as if his entire energy had gone out of his body and he had become soul-less. He simply signaled to take mother to her room and stayed back in the Pooja Room, sitting on the floor, gazing on the front portion of the table where the Holy Gita was kept.
After about an hour, the people came out of the temple and were talking that the cradle of Lord Kirshna had come back on the original place of the temple. My father was taken aback to hear all that. He came out to confirm that and returned silently and again sat in the Pooja Room.
I was still awake and my mother asked me to find out what my father was doing? I went to the Pooja Room, and found my father fixed like a stone. I tried to shake my father, but didn’t move as if he had become a simple wooden piece oran iron statue.
I moved him with a jerk, he saw at me. I asked him what happened, Lala Ji,? My father hit his head on the floor and cried. “I lost my life, my Lord has gone. Baldev, he was Lord Vishnu, who had come, I didn’t recognize Him, and the Saintly man was in fact Lord Vishnu himself. He shouted from the core of his heart and feelings, “My life has become useless, I could pay no reverence to Him, He came to me and I failed to recognise Him.” He hit his head again and again on the floor and burst into tears.
We immediately brought our mother there in the Pooja Room again, but my father was crying off and on “ My lord was with me, My krishna was with me, My Vishnu was with me, I didn’t recognize Him, he cried again and fell his head on the ground. We all started weeping, tears were rolling on our faces silently.
The whole night we were talking, no body slept except my youngest sister who was already sleeping in our neighbor’s house.
