MIL/Agencies, Apr 21, 2008. IR Summary

New Delhi, India: April 21, 2008 – IR Summary -  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken an understandable stand and made it clear once again that there should not be any apprehension among government servants over the Pay Commission recommendations.

“I have favored   proper remuneration for the civil and defence services,” Mr. Singh said.

After the Pay Commission submitted its report, some apprehensions cropped up among the Govt. servants. Prime Minister elucidated:

"I would like our civil and defence services to be properly rewarded. I also believe that the tax payers will not grudge anyone of us better remuneration as long as we are serving the best interests of our people, most efficiently."

He said that the government has already set up a high-level committee headed by Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar to process the report of the six Pay Commission and also set another committee to look into the grievances of the government servants.

Prime Minister said, “I would expect the highest standards of discipline and decorum from all civil servants. Improved working conditions of work must go hand in hand with improvement of work.”
