New Delhi, India: March 17, 2008 – MIL-CNN-IBN –IR Summary -Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit who is in Pakistan waiting for his end, wants Rahul Gandhi to intervene and request Pakistan President to give him pardon.
Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh continues to be on death row in a Pakistan jail and the Indian government is yet to take an official stand by requesting the Pak government to give humanitarian consideration to Sarabjit. "There has been no help from the Government of India. Had the government taken any interest, we would not have heard of this news in the first place,” says Dalbir.
Dalbir is angry and disappointed but she is in no mood to quit. Continuing her battle to secure the release of Sarabjit - who is languishing in a Pakistani jail for the past 17 years - Dalbir is now pinning her hopes on AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
“Mr Gandhi said he'll speak to the Soniaji and Prime Minister. He has also promised to make efforts for my brother's release,” she says.
“No case is ever weak to political considerations. Rahul Gandhi is a person in billion and Dalbir should not leave her hope, he is a great guy, May God give wisdom to President Musharraf to pardon the Indian prisoner and this pardon shall go a long way in cementing the Indo Pak friendship,” NIA Chairman said in New Delhi in the meeting of Nations Integration Assembly.
