Peace to prevail –President Kibaki and Odinga to form coalition govt.

Nairobi, Kenya: February 28, 2008 – IR Summary - Kofi Annan, who acted as mediator, brought a political understanding in Keya’s rival political parties here today. The politicians from both factions have finally agreed to save the country from further bloodshed to run the government peacefully.
Though Annan did not give details of the deal between President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga, who both claim to have won the country's Dec. 27 presidential election, but both of them have come to a compromise point of forming a coalition government and assured that they would run the Government with mutual cooperation.
"We have come to an understanding on the coalition government," Annan told reporters. He added: "All I can say is that we do have an agreement."
The election dispute set off clashes that killed more than 1,000 people and eviscerated the East African country's economy. Postelection violence has largely subsided in recent weeks, but the country remains on edge.
