Zero degree Friday today?

New Delhi, February 1, 2008 - Out with the heavy cloaks and kindling. If the BBC website is to be believed, Friday morning will arrive here in the Capital with an unprecedented minimum temperature of Zero degree Celsius.
According to Hindu, if it materialises, the par-zero temperature will crown an erratically cold winter that has seen the mercury perform an eccentric dance between the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ confines of its vacuous glass tube.
Continuing its downward trend of the past few days, the minimum temperature recorded on Thursday was 3.4 degrees Celsius, down more than half-degree from the 4.1 degrees recorded on Wednesday. The maximum temperature, however, was a comfortable 19.4 degrees that lent some respite to the cold-harassed public.
Though the BBC has forecast a Zero degree Celsius minimum temperature for Friday, Delhi’s own weatherman has put a wager on 2 degrees with mainly clear skies and north-westerly winds compounding the pains of the chill throughout the day.
According to a Meteorological Department spokesperson, the persistent chill was due to snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Additionally, the BBC website has also forecast a damp weekend ahead. With the prospect of a “zero degree” Friday, Delhiites had varying observations.
