Islamabad, Pakiastan: January 5, 2007 – IR Summary - Scotland Yard not only accepted the request of President Musharraf to help investigate the causes of the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, but also have reached Pakistan from UK to get into their job.

The team is expected to visit the site in Rawalpindi where Benazir was attacked by a gunman and a suicide bomber after addressing a rally on December 27. The team is expected to stay in Pakistan and complete their investigations within a month.

A high-level meeting chaired by Musharraf on Friday is to review the situation of law and order and would also make all arrangements to extend the govt. assistance in their task of investigations.
 
The team of the Scotland Yard comprises five-members from the Metropolitan Police's Counter-Terrorism Command, who were briefed by Pakistani anti-terror experts on investigations conducted so far into her killing in a suicide attack last week.  

Officials of the Special Investigation Group, the anti-terror wing of Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency, which is heading the ongoing investigation, briefed the British team. Officials from Pakistan's Interior Ministry also met the team to discuss modalities for the investigations.

Members of the British team refused to talk to reporters on their arrival at the international airport here and at their hotel.

The arrival of the team of Scotland Yard is being considered a great credit to President Musharraf for his clean inquiry from a third party so as to remove all doubts being cast against his govt.
