Mumbai : January 3, 2008 - Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar certainly have reason to cheer both provided the last releases of 2007 and both made sure the year ended with a very busy box office!
Aamir Khans 's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par has moved audiences and floored the critcs. Welcome was a far cry but Akshay Kumar's comic capers with Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar were also given a very warm welcome.
According to NDTV Movies, it has been very good for the box office, though Taare Zameen Par was a slow starter but because the film is so good, people have enjoyed crying in the film, it has picked up in big cities.
It is basically a city film and is doing good in places like Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Gurgaon. For Welcome, though the second week has seen a drop in collection but not so bad. In the first week it was 90 per cent then in the second week it has fallen to 65-70 per cent but this is very good," said Komal Nahata, Trade Analyst & Film Critic.
"Both films are of different genre. Taare Zameen Par has more of families and children coming. Welcome is an out and out comedy and people are coming for that too. There is no way the two can be compared," said Alok Tandon, COO, Inox Leisure Ltd.
It's not often that two such diverse films fare equally well at the same time. One a complete crowd pleaser, the other thought provoking and sensitive. And as the curtain goes up on a New Year lets hope now too the welcome is warm.
