Musharraf must not quit being backbone of Pakistan: NIA Chairman
MIL, Jan 3, 2008. Dr. Raj Baldev, NIA Chairman

California, USA, Released on January 3, 2008 by Monica Groover. The news underMusharraf must quit: International think-tank” lacks proper analysis.

Robert Templer, Crisis Group's Asia Programme Director says that nuclear-armed Pakistan will end up in a civil war from which extremists would stand to gain if President Musharraf continues in the post which will further worsen the prevailing situation. His analysis lacks reasons, as per Dr. Raj Baldev, NIA Chairman from India, version released from California.

Robert Templer is talking about democracy in Pakistan.  He said, "It is time to recognize that democracy, and not an artificially propped-up, defrocked, widely despised general, has the best chance to provide stability and turn back extremists' gains," Robert Templer, Crisis Group's Asia Programme Director said.

Dr. Raj Baldev, Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA), who promotes Indo Pak friendship and peace between each country, and who has successfully contributed  peace and helped  phase out many hotbeds in last four decades, feels that democracy has more evils than good, since a common man in democracy lacks discipline, the democracy is a blessing but with certain restrictions and not the democracy as Templer feels.

The people give little importance to discipline; they resort to looting and arson when a grave situation arises as happened after the assassination of Benzir Bhutto.

Discipline is a must. There is a way of protesting and not looting the country’s banks or putting the country’s property on fire including railway and putting the innocent people to death.  I am not against democracy, it is good, damn good but it has more evils than good when misused.  Normally the democracy is misused.

I am an India, I have seen the days before India was declared independent. I spent lot of time with British rulers. I have the privilege of meeting many heads of states on their invitations in their own countries, and exchanged my views with them.

I enjoy a status of a senior journalist as a political and science writer with dozens of books to my credit. I know the difference between democracy and a disciplined or restricted democracy.

I have seen real India after independence. I have seen the virtues of their democracy and have also observed it evil effects. In democracy, an illiterate person who has little or no knowledge about the credentials of a candidate casts his vote blindly.

On the other hand an educated person would cost a vote to a deserving candidate after a careful study about the candidate. Since illiterate and less educated people are in the majority in a country, thus only less deserving candidates are elected and the most deserving candidates lose their battle.

Those who are genuinely concerned about the country and can take it forward are not elected and those whose interests are narrow, restricted to their individual interests and cannot think of their country are elected. Is it a democracy?

So far the following of a party or community or caste groups are concerned, it is all right but about the larger cause of the country, a common man  takes the candidate of his own community or caste above all, ignoring the national interest, they simply want their own candidate, whether he deserves the position in politics or not, whether he can serve the country or not.

I feel that India is suffering from democracy, since no single main political party can take any vital and national decision; they are to bank on the alliance, even if one group in alliance differs, the main party cannot take any decision, and if it dares, it loses the govt., elections again. Thus India is not stable so far its promises as a nation are concerned, they are forced to be broken by the alliance groups, in that situation, where the democracy stands?

Take the example of US Indo Nuclear Deal, the UPA Govt. in India is still suffering at the hands of the left party, who are in their alliance and they have openly let down the total prestige of the country because of their ideological differences with Americans.

Left do not seem to have proper  interest for the country, simply because their ideological with Americans do not match and whether India suffers its national interests, they are not concerned, since India is a democratic country. In fact, the legislatures cannot make proper laws, and India always suffers due to democracy.

I admit that Pakistan is already facing a law and order problem in the wake of former premier Benazir Bhutto's assassination and the only way is to give it a civilian government.  But it is necessary to have a strong man like President Musharraf to head who has the courage, and ability to assess the situation and then act, countries are run by strong personalities not only with a word democracy.

President Musharraf is doing very right and have taken the most apt decisions like postponing elections to 18 February and to take proper action against all those supporters of Bhutto who looted the country to task and caused an irreparable loss to their nation. Also his proposal that the Scotland Yard should take care of the investigation of causes of Bhutto’s death is remarkable so that all the doubts could be cleared.

Pakistan must have a restricted democracy and a disciplined democracy so that the Nuclear arsenals should not slip into the hands of Islamic Extremists and it is a great danger for Pakistan than just to have a nominal democracy on paper.

If President Musharraf quits, the Islamic extremeists shall only benefit and not the democracy. President Musharraf's position as President can only keep pakistan stable and on the world map.
