4 Terrorists killed 7 CRPF Jawans, 1 Civilian in Rampur

Rampur, U.P, India: January 1, 2008 – IR Summary - Four terrorists fired at CRPF Camp in Rampur, killing seven CRPF jawans and one civilian and injured six, a very unfortunate beginning of the New Year for Bareilly district.
This attack wants to prove that terrorists can strike at any place as and when and where they want. Just on the 23rd of November, 13 people were killed in six near simultaneous blasts in court complexes in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi towns of Uttar Pradesh.
The terrorists killed seven seven CRPF personnel and one civilian and injured six during their attack at around 3 o'clock in the morning.
The terrorists first opened fire at the gate of the camp, killing two jawans and then managed to get to the second post, where they shot dead five more jawans. One rickshaw puller was killed in the crossfire, and escaped.
''We were going to the police station when we heard a firing. We thought that people must be celebrating New Year. We took our positions once we got to know that it is a terrorist attack. They fled after the attack. I couldn't see how many men there were. They were throwing bombs and firing,'' said Inderpal Singh, Constable, UP Police.
