Naudero, Pakistan: December 30, 2007 - IR Summary - There is a strong crowd of people gathered here today on the ancestral home of late Benazir Bhutto shouting anti-government slogans.
The people were gathered to know who would be the successor to lead next month’s parliamentary elections. The name of the successor shall be announced after Bhutto’s will is read out; her son is requested to read the will. Though the meeting has loud voice of different groups of people alleging wild allegations against the Govt., certain people in the meeting are also seen trying to pacify the angry supporters with a plea that they should chalk out the policy practically to challenge the govt. rather than just criticizing.
They also said that pullout by the Pakistan People's Party could destroy the credibility of the parliamentary elections, already being boycotted by Pakistan's other main opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, hence they should think to participate in elections than boycotting it.
The crowd also leveled allegations against the US Govt and Pakistan Govt. who failed to conduct proper investigation into the death of their beloved leader Benazir Bhutto.
On the other hand, the US Govt. and Pakistan Govt. want elections on time so that the stability could be established in the Pakistan.
There is serious apprehension that if the govt. fails to hold elections on time, it shall encourage the Islamic extremists and they might try to capture the places where Nuclear arsenals are kept underground. Al-Qaeda has already an eye over it.
The anger among the supporters of their slain leader was seen under control and this is a good sign for President Mushraff, who is the only person who can really control the country from being swayed away.
