Musharraf may lift emergency within 24 hours
MIL/Agencies, Nov 28, 2007. IR Summary
Islamabad, Pakistan: November 28, 2007- (IR Summary) - There are reports that US President Bush has put a pressure on President Pervez Musharraf that since he has quitted the military post, he should lift the emergency forthwith, which he has agreed.
Though there is no confirmed report, the inductions from Washington are that President Musharraf would lift the emergency within 24 hours before taking the oath as a Civilian President of Pakistan.
Pakistan's Dawn newspaper has also reported that all persons detained after the imposition of Emergency will be freed soon.
Musharraf came to power in a bloodless coup in 1999 by deposing then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Now Nawaz Sharif has returned to Pakistan and he may become a headache for Musharraf, some experts feel but there is another divided opinion that Musharraf has entered into an understanding that Nawaz Sharif would cooperate with him in retaining his position and he in turn would help him to become the Prime Minister.
This change has come up since Bhutto has ditched Musharraf and he does not want Bhutto to become the Prime Minister, he prefers Nawaz Sharif to become the Prime Minister and cooperate with him. This is the reason that Musharraf allowed Sharif to return to Pakistan.
