Bhutto afraid of elections, Musharraf told BBC

MIL/Agencies, Nov 17, 2007

London: November 17, 2007 –(IR Summary) - Pakistan President Pervez Musharaf has said in an interview to  BBC on Friday that Bhutto is afraid of fighting election, she is not confident whether she would win, she is scared of elections that's what Musharraf feels sure.

The remarks have come after Bhutto contacted various political parties to form a collective forum against Musharraf and vowed to boycott the Parliamentary elections.

Musharraf said in the interview to BBC:

''She (Bhutto) would not like to go into an election because her (Pakistan People's) Party is not in a state to win at all,'' President Musharraf told in an interview to BBC.

Bhutto was placed under house arrest twice, she was set free yesterday, she has asked the President quit.

Describing Bhutto as ''the darling of the West,'' Musharraf said he would ''certainly go for the election, in spite of any agitation by her. We will not allow her to do that.''

Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, had returned to Pakistan last month from eight years self-imposed exile and was likely to share power with Musharraf  under an agreement between the two, but the circumstances took a sudden turn in Pakistan  compelling Musharraf to declare emergency and that irritated Bhutto and she became hostile.

The agreement between the both of them is broken now and Bhutto became hostile against President Musharraf and wants to install a common platform against Musharraf through a political alliance of all parties in Pakistan with a view to defeat Musharraf on all fronts.
