No Ban on limited Research Activities of Iran-IRNA

MIL, Nov 28, 2004

The negotiators in Vienna had worked out a consensus formula, under which Iran could turn off the 20 centrifuges but they shall be put them under a camera surveillance rather than under seal by the I.A.E.A.  Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said on Saturday.

The Foreign Minister said that Iran had every right to keep the centrifuges for research purposes. Iran could use them to enrich uranium in the interest of their country." Iran's demand to keep 20 centrifuges is not against its commitments," he added.

The negotiator, however, agreed during their talks in Paris with Britain, Germany and France. The Paris Accord, in fact, was meant to clear the way for a resolution to be passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations' Nuclear Monitoring Body, in Vienna that Iran had agreed for a complete compliance.

"There is no ban on research activities in the agreement," IRNA said on Nov. 15 and that there was no proposal of freezing all nuclear activities of Iran. The IRNA had, probably, in mind the issue of 20 centrifuges, for which Iran could be exempted for research purposes.

Still, there are certain clauses in the resolution drafted in Vienna by three countries that do not suit Iran. The Foreign Minister said that the same is "not acceptable by Iran since the clauses incorporated therein were contrary to the Paris Agreement." However, he did not elaborate and the talks will resume on Monday.

It is a goog move by the three countries and IRNA for establishing peace in the region.(Editorial).
