Lahore, Pakistan: November 2007 – IR Summary - Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has come out open from his hiding den for the first time after imposition of Emergency by Parvez Musharraf.
Imran was reported to take part in an anti-Emergency protest, but was severely pushed by the students. This rally at Lahore was rescheduled by an affiliate wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami party. In fact the students did not like that a political color should be given to their rally.
”Things turned ugly when Khan turned up uninvited. He was immediately humiliated and bundled up into his car. The students also attacked and kicked his car forcing it out of the University premises. The Police was called in and Imran Khan was taken into custody, as per Zee News reports.
"The students have to be mobilised to save the judiciary," Khan said in an interview with Britain’s ‘The Independent’ newspaper from a secret location.
"What Musharraf achieved by this Emergency was to get rid of this judiciary. Even if he lifts the Emergency and holds elections, they are going to be meaningless," he said.
Khan, who led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 cricket World Cup, went underground after escaping from house arrest, ordered following the imposition of Emergency on November 03, as per Zee News.
