President Rule to go, BJP to form Govt. in Karnataka, hurdles cleared
MIL/Agencies, Nov 8, 2007. IR Summary
New Delhi: November 8, 2007 – The BJP and JS (S) have won the political battle; the BJP will now have its Chief Minister in B.S. Yediyurappa in Karnataka, Governor, Rameshwar Thakur and the Union Cabinet have given their green signal to revoke President Rule and to pave the ground for the BJP’s new government.
Both the JD (S) and BJP legislators are anxiously waiting for a notification by the Governor inviting the coalition partners to form the government.
However, before fully forming the government, the Assembly will be convened and Yediuurappa will have to prove his majority in the Assembly.
Whatever the political pressure on the Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur might be, the fight was tough against the Congress policy not to allow BJP to form the new Government.
The political situation demanded this since the MLAs were against seeking a fresh mandate from the people when nearly 20 months remained before the term of the Assembly expired. This was a main criterion, which could not be ignored.
The come back of BJP shall strengthen its political position more than it previously held.
