New Delhi: November 04, 2007 - IR Summary - The Resident doctors, Junior doctors and interns at Safdarjung Hospital called off their three-day-old strike here on yesterday (AN) following an agreement with the hospital administration.
The doctors had gone on strike because the influential relatives of a patient was allegedly manhandled a physician on duty and threatened with dire consequences.
The strike had crippled the medical services to the genuine patients.
Safdarjung Hospital Medical Superintendent J. Prasad said that the strike was illegal being essential service institution and they were issued notices to join the duty. At the same time, the hospital authorities have realized their real problem of increasing the security which has been agreed to.
The Police Commissioner has sanctioned 36 Delhi Police constables to take care of the hospital to form a part of the multi-layer security cover.
The spokesperson of the hospital, V. K. Dogra, said that talks were successful and the doctors on strike have promised to call off the strike forthwith.
