New Delhi: November 3, 2007 - Junior doctors went on a strike yesterday evening at the government Safdarjung Hospital on one of the grievances that relatives of a patient misbehaved with one of the doctors.
"We have gone on a flash strike. There is no security for doctors and other medical staff in the hospital," Rohit Tyagi, General Secretary of Safdarjung Resident Doctors Association, said.
The General Secretary added that they were forced to go on strike, as the security provided by hospital authorities was not adequate.
In fact, the doctors first went on a strike on September 4, after a relative of a patient had allegedly assaulted a doctor. But the strike was later on called off on the assurance that proper security would be provided in the hospital area.
The doctors now allege that the authorities have not complied with their promise and they, therefore, went on strike and the strike has put the public into a great inconvenience.
The authorities are now serious in the matter and are ready to negotiate with the junior doctors to call off the strike and hope that the strike may be called off today.
