Congress blocking formation of BJP-JD (S) : Gowda
MIL/Agencies, Oct 30, 2007. IR Summary
Bangalore: October 30, 2007 – IR Summary - BJP and JDS are doubtful whether Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur would invite them to form the government.
Mr. Gowda apprehends that it is Congress that is blocking the formation of the BJP and JDS govt.
Both the parties urged the Governor to invite them to form their government by this evening, but there looks to be no proper response from the Raj Bhawan. There is a question mark whether the Governor is under certain pressure from the outer lobby?
However, both the BJP-JDS have threatened to launch a state-wide agitation and a march to Raj Bhavan from Wednesday, if the Governor fails to invite them to form a government.
"If the Governor fails to invite us to form the government by this evening, both parties will launch 'Raj Bhavan chalo' and a state wide agitation," state unit presidents of BJP and JDS, D V Sadanada Gowda and Merajuddin Patel respectively, announced at a press conference here.
Gowda has written another letter to the Governor clarifying and stressing that BJP and JDS both enjoyed a clear majority of 129 legislators in the 224-member state assembly.
Mr. Gowda also also drew the attention of the Governor’s own statement which he made in Delhi that there was a scope for formation of a government if any party approached him with clear majority. Gowda feels and alleges that it is Congress party that is trying to block formation of the BJP-JDS government.
Dr. Raj Baldev, Cosmo Theorist from India, and Chairman, National Integration Assembly (NIA), who had played a small role of bringing both the political parties i.e. BJP and JDS together by sinking their differences and form the government, said:
“Mr. Gowda’s statement that Congress party is trying to block formation of the BJP-JDS government may be correct since it was Congress who pressed for dissolution of the Assembly. Even so, it does not seem to be so easy for the Congress party to exert their influence over the Governor to ignore the demand of the BJP and JDS combine.”
