Flexibility absolutely essential to help solve Kashmir problem

MIL, Nov 20, 2004

Srinagar - Claiming that Pakistan as well as the Hurriyat Conference have shown flexibility in their known stand on Kashmir, hardline faction of the separatist amalgam today asked India to give a matching response to resolve the issue.

The statement of India’s Prime Minister made in J&K that India would not redraw its line of Kashmir has irked every body, whether it is Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf or leaders of  Hurriyat Conference including some section of the media.  But normally Media did not offer its comments. International Reporter did object to his statement in terms of his rigidity.  There are certain lovers of peace who also did not appreciate the statement of Mr. Manmohan Singh.

"Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as well as the Hurriyat Conference have budged from their respective stands and it is the turn of India to show flexibility in its stand on Kashmir," said Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Keeping in view the present peaceful talk in view, he said Musharraf has shown flexibility in Pakistan's stand on Kashmir in the hope that Government of India will also adopt a realistic approach for expeditious resolution of the Kashmir issue. But it is unfortunate that Prime Minister of India has left no room of any flexibility in solving Kashmir issue by giving his statement.

"But the Government of India stood by its rigid stand which was unrealistic and far from the truth," Geelani alleged.

Hurriyat Conference in its constitution has given preference to the implementation of UN resolutions for solving the Kashmir issue, which India avoids. To be flexible on this issue, Geelani inserted a provision for tripartite talks.
