New Delhi: October 13, 2007 – The clouds are clear; secret consensus was arrived at between UPA Chairperson and the Left Party over the Indo-US Deal. There shall be no snap polls in February-March, as anticipated.
The response has come quite open, loud and clear from both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well as UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
There will be no snap polls in February-March, as speculated. And the contentious Indo-US nuclear deal has been put on hold.
This is undoubtedly a climb down by the Congress, and a win-win- situation by the Left.
In fact, it is not the proper time for Sonia Gandhi to take any risk to disturb the Govt. since Rahul’s career could be in stake and he may not reach an exalted position that she wishes for or what he deserves to be.
Whatever the political remarks pouring from different directions on this speculation, there are no two opinions about it. The Congress High Command and the PM Manmohan Singh both have compromised the situation under a threat. The threat by the Left Party could definitely cause a fall of their govt. and they were in a real mode to wreck the govt. on the issue of Indo-US Deal and that did not suit the UPA at this juncture.
As a result of this compromise, many dissent voices are likely to emerge and that shall not be an easy job to tackle every voice, even though some of the petty alliances might be satisfied.
There are certain top thinktank who feel that Sonia Gandhi would not forget this compromise, when the right time comes, she may hit back.
