Case registered, 2 Japanese tourists raped, India’s head bows
MIL/Hindu, Sep 25, 2007.

New Delhi, September 25, 2007 – “India makes tall claim to be a great civilized and hospitable country and its citizens are equally considered to be generous, social and friendly. But the allegations by two young Japanese women that they were kept in confinement for three days and criminally assaulted by at least three men in Agra has put the head down of the whole country, who is celebrating the victory as World Champion in Twenty20 cricket on one hand and on the other hand the police registered an FIR against three persons involved in such a national crime,” as per Chief Editor of International Reporter.

Where we stand, the tourist figure is declining.  If not, at least it is not encouraging and growing due to such cases of rapes and criminal assaults on the female tourists.  What Indian govt. and the authorities are doing to prevent such crimes? MIL reports.

The case was reported to be registered on Sunday after the victims informed the Japanese Embassy here about the incident. It is learnt that after coming to Delhi on September 15, the very next day the two women went to Jaipur from where they proceeded to Agra on September 19.

In a restaurant there, they came across two persons, identified as Raees and Sunny, with whom they became friendly as Sunny could speak Japanese well. They had a drinking session, following which the two women were allegedly assaulted by the two. The next day, another man joined the culprits and allegedly assaulted them again and threatened to kill them if they tried to escape.

The victims were kept in confinement for three days. The culprits put them in a Delhi-bound taxi on Saturday. After reaching the Capital, the women contacted the Embassy officials and narrated the incident.
As they had to take a flight back to Japan, the Embassy authorities decided to get a Zero FIR registered with the Delhi airport police. The medical examination of the victims was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday night.

The victims have handed over to the police the memory card of a mobile phone by which they had taken the photographs of some of the culprits.
Their clothes were also taken for forensic examination. The case is being transferred to the Agra police for further investigation.
