Nuke Deal shall bear no impact on Iran gas pipeline

Bangalore: September 18, 2007 - Indian Govt. is quite clear that Iran gas pipeline deal has no relation with the Indo-US nuclear deal. This was confirmed by Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal on Tuesday. The govt. wants the Indo-Iran project of gas pipeline and was pursuing the matter.
Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibel said, “ We are giving up on the deal. We are supporting the deal with Iran.”.
The government was still pursuing negotiations on the matter, Sibal said in reply to a question alluding to a statement by the Iran government that it would not wait indefinitely for India's decision on participation in the project.
Iran had warned that it would finalise the mutli-billion dollar gas pipeline deal with Pakistan and not wait indefinitely for India's decision.
The 2,600 km long pipeline is expected to cost dollar 7.4 billion and according to Iranian projection could be completed by 2010.
