New Delhi, August 20, 2007 - Two Indian Air Force pilots have created a new world record for the fastest circumvention of the globe in a microlight aircraft, thanks to a generous helping hand by the Pakistani Air Force.
Wing Commanders Rahul Mongia and Anil Kumar have landed at the Hindon Air Force base at the Delhi suburb of Ghaziabad.
For the first time in many a decade the IAF pilots also landed in Karachi in Pakistan on their way home.
The two completed their feat of going round the world in 61 days, 19 less than the existing world record of 80days.
The duo, who have created a new world record on the 300 to 500 kg microlight weight category, were originally to fly from Dubai to Delhi, crossing the Arabian Sea which would have taken them another two weeks.
The Pakistani Air Force authorities in a friendly gesture allowed them to alter the plan and allowed them to land at Karachi for a quicker turnaround.
