Andhra Govt decides to take action against Taslima attackers
MIL/Agencies/Sahara, Aug 14, 2007.
Hyderabad: August 14, 2007 – There was a great rumor that the Andhra Govt. is going to adopt soft corner for Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leaders in the Taslima Nasreen attack case, which is clarified that the govt. is taking necessary action against them.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy has already clarified that the Government is determined to take necessary action against the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leaders in the Taslima Nasreen attack case .
"The government will fufil constitutional obligations. We will act as per law," he told reporters here.
Asked whether MIM floor leader in the Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi's remarks threatening the controversial Bangladeshi writer were a fit case for slapping charges of attempt to murder against him, the Chief Minister remarked "I am not a legal expert." Whatever legal action had to be taken would be taken, he said in the wake of criticism that the Congress government was soft towards its ally MIM.
The police have belatedly booked a case against Owaisi, whose party leaders and workers had attacked Nasreen during a book release function here last week, on the charge of criminal intimidation and trespass.
When pointed out that Owaisi had threatened to implement a "fatwa" of killing Nasreen if she dared to visit the city again, Reddy clarified that all things would be taken into consideration.
