Karachi: July 14, 2007 - Former Pakistan cricket captain and team manager Zaheer Abbas has said that Inzamam-ul-Haq must call it a day from international cricket and allow youngsters to play. 

“It’s the best time for Inzamam to leave the arena and allow youngsters to replace him in the larger interest of the game,” Zaheer said. 

Commending Inzamam’s contribution for Pakistani cricket, Zaheer said, “He (Inzamam) has served the country and brought laurels for Pakistan both as a batsman and captain, but now he should quit from Test cricket as well.” 

Stating that most former cricketers never took the right decision at the end of their careers, he said, “It would be best for him (Inzamam) to avoid more controversies and retire now.”  

“It’s a difficult decision to quit after remaining in the limelight for so many years. But this decision will be in his own interest,” The News quoted Zaheer, as saying. 

“It is difficult to maintain form and fitness when you are out of action for many months,” he added. 

Inzamam, who had scored 8813 runs in 119 Tests for Pakistan, is just 20 runs short of overtaking Javed Miandad as the highest run-getter for the country. Miandad mustered 8832 runs in 124 Test matches.  

Inzamam had retired from ODIs in March this year. (ANI)
